D-2521/2020
The client in the case is a well-known political blogger from Azerbaijan. The case concerns the rejection of the asylum application and the deportation of the client from Switzerland to Azerbaijan.
Circumstances of the case
In Switzerland the State Secretariat for Migration rejected the client's asylum application. His initial representative appealed against the decision to the Federal Administrative Court.
The client turned to us, because his representative lacked specific knowledge about the human rights situation in Azerbaijan. We have supplemented the appeal with the analysis of the content of his blog and collected information about the ways in which the Azerbaijani authorities persecute bloggers, journalists, and activists for exercising the freedom of speech.
The State Secretariat for Migration revoked its initial decision and reopened the client’s asylum case after exchanging comments and providing new information about his persecution during appeal proceedings.
As a result, the complainant was granted refugee status in Switzerland.
